Canadian Man Builds Himself Robot Girlfriend

A Canadian man, apparently unable to find the perfect woman, has done the next best thing — he's built himself one.

Le Trung, a 33-year-old software engineer who lives with his parents in Brampton, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto, says he's spent about $20,000 so far on Aiko, a 5-foot-tall female android with clear skin, a slim if shapely figure and a wonderful disposition.

"She can recognize faces, she can identify medication, she can even butter your toast," Le Trung tells the Toronto Globe and Mail.

Not only that, but Aiko speaks — in both English and, for some reason, Japanese. (Le Trung has a Vietnamese name.) She can also read.

"Aiko is what happens when science meets beauty," Le Trung tells the Sun of London. "Aiko doesn't need holidays, food or rest, and will work almost 24 hours a day. She is the perfect woman."

She still can't walk, however. That will take a lot more work and, Le Trung tells the Globe and Mail, a new round of funding. He hopes to create and sell more pretty female robots in the future.

But, ahem, is there more than just companionship involved?

"Aiko is still a virgin, AND NO I do not sleep with her," he writes on the Project Aiko Web site, though he admits that she "has sensors in her body including her private parts, and yes even down there."

Aiko Website
http://www.projectaiko.com/

Welcome to Project Aiko

This is official Project Aiko website, which talk about the making of an android called Aiko. Aiko was build from my basement using my credit card and my entire saving account as funding. I decided to use Silicone Doll from Japan as Aiko's body. My vision was to create something that we will be able to relate to and consider human-like.

Aiko is the first android to mimic pain, and reacts to it. This technology can be beneficial for people born with or who have undergone amputations. This is the first step toward a life-like mechanical limb that has the ability to feel physical sensation

How Aiko was built

I have been watching Robot anime, since I was a kid. After watching Chobits and DearS, I have made up my mind that I will make a full human android on August 15,2007. All it takes is inspiration...

After many struggles, and exactly 1.5 months later I have finished Aiko version 1.0. On Novemeber 2,3,4 2007, Aiko made her first TV interview from Global news, and her first public apperance at the HobbyShow at Toronto International Center, and Ontario Science Center a week later. Aiko is bilingual, she can speak English and Japanese.

Aiko is "MADE IN CANADA"

"I know it is still far out of reach to make a true android like human, but one step at a time." Le Trung

About Aiko's Technology

With our current technology it is impossible to design software and hardware to mimic all systems of life. However, I have tried my best to designing an artificial intelligence system which uses both dynamic software and hardware linked together to mimic part of human behaviour. By using Biometric Robot Artificial Intelligence Neural System (aka B.R.A.I.N.S) software together with a custom designed Humanoid (aka Aiko), we hope one day we will make an android as close to a human as much as possible.

Building a robot that will look humanoid is a very complicated but fascinating experience. The differences between robot and human are that we have feelings and emotions and robots do not. It is currently impossible to build a robot that will have the same feelings and emotions as us, but we can start by building a robot that looks human, one that can read, recognize objects, and interact with the surroundings.

Aiko has the ability to talk and interact with human (13,000+ sentences). Aiko can read books, newspapers (print font size at least 12 pts). She has the ability to solve math problems displayed to her visually. Aiko has the ability to see color patterns on the clothes you are wearing. Aiko in theory has the ability to bring you your orange juice or coffee. In other words, Aiko can distinguish between the different drinks. She can also recognize simple foods such as Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Sandwiches and even toys. Aiko has the ability to recognize the faces of family members, or Aiko can be programmed to activate defense mode when it does not recognize the person’s face in the house such as in the case of an intruder. How advance is Aiko? When you are about to go outside, Aiko can tell you to bring an umbrella if it is going to rain or wear warmer clothes if it is windy.

OMG! It wouldn't surprise me though, for he still lives with his parents. I mean, he should go out there, socialize and get a REAL girl for himself! I admire his talent and intelligence, but I pity him for making a robotic girlfriend. Porous toys are very much understandable and openly embraced by lots of people, but considering a robot to be your girl? That's quite sad.

Fascinating (and weird) story. Our Japanese brothers are perhaps the most creatively deviant of them all. Maybe he was just trying to make himself a sex doll, but his technological knowledge and creativity took too much part in the equation.
